How to Make More Money in Your Small Business in 2026

Let’s face it, everybody on this planet, whether they own a small business or not, is trying to do two things in life: lose weight and make more money.

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t also trying to achieve these two things. As a small business owner, mom, and horse gal, yep, these are two pretty major life goals for me right now. Luckily for you, I’ve started to master the second one: making more money in my business, and I’d love to share some tips! I’m definitely not a gatekeeping gal. If you know me in real life, you know that when I find something that works, I love to share it with friends and help them succeed too. My business is literally built on this concept: the first websites I created were for two very close friends with small businesses. Enough about that, let’s get into how to make you some money with your website!

Sell Products Online

This is the obvious one: selling physical products online. For shops and boutiques, this is often their main source of income and the top way to make money with a website. I build all my websites on Squarespace, which has a built-in commerce system that’s super easy to use. You can set up shipping, inventory, product variants, and more, and get a shop up and running fairly quickly.

What a lot of small businesses sleep on, though, is digital products. Almost every business I can think of from accountants to vet clinics to horse trainers could have digital products available on their website. These could be guides, checklists, eBooks, planners—the list goes on. This is huge, and it’s something I feel small businesses really overlook. Squarespace makes it super easy to sell downloadable files, and these are the kinds of things you put effort into once, and then they can sell for a lifetime. It’s an easy way to make passive income that you can set and forget. You can also take something you already use with your clients, turn it into a generic version, and sell it to the masses. For example, I’m a web designer, and to help my clients create their websites, they need website copy. I created a PDF Website Copywriting Guide to help with this process, and once it was done, I put it for sale on my website. Passive income from something I already had—it now sells forever. No brainer. If you take anything away from this post, go create a digital PDF for your business immediately and start selling it on your website.

Streamline Bookings & Services

I see a lot of small business owners who aren’t using their websites to their fullest potential here, and I’m pretty passionate about it—cue standing on my soapbox. If you have a website, MAKE IT SO PEOPLE CAN BOOK OR BUY INSTANTLY. We live in an age where everyone is doing everything on their phone, and that’s not an exaggeration. Ninety percent of all website traffic is from mobile. Whether it’s a mom juggling kids and schedules, whipping out her phone to book your service, or someone on a business trip in the airport, people want to buy what you have right now not wait a week. Make it easy for them. Integrate Honeybook, Calendly, Vagaro, or your preferred system directly into your website so they can book while reading about your services.

Offer Online Courses or Workshops

If you have expertise, teaching is a great way to monetize it. These days, everyone talks about social media for teaching, gaining followers, and waiting for TikTok or Instagram to pay you for views. But what if you could have that same audience in a place you own and control? Your website! Squarespace is perfect for this—it has a great setup for online courses that you can put behind a paywall and monetize directly on your site. This is similar to digital products: you’re already an expert in your field, so why not turn it into an additional revenue stream?

Use Blogging to Drive Revenue

Wait you’re reading a blog right now?! Blogging isn’t dead, I promise. It’s actually one of the best ways to drive traffic to your website and make sales. It might not be flashy or obvious, but it’s still a leading way to attract people who actually want to buy from you. Search engines find the words in your posts and titles, and when people are looking for solutions or topics they care about, your blog guides them to your site. If your posts are written strategically, they can lead readers to the products, services, or courses you want to sell. The best part? You genuinely help people with their problems, which is arguably better than just selling.

Why Your Website Still Matters in 2026

A modern website is more than just a digital business card—it’s your central revenue hub. The right website shows professionalism, builds trust, streamlines sales for products, services, and courses, automates processes so you can focus on growing your business, and acts as a passive income generator. Investing time and effort in your website now can pay off all year long and beyond.
